Mama Monday // Grandparents, Football, Essential Oils, and Monkey Business

1. In case you missed my post for Grandparents’ Day, you should definitely check it out.

2. Fellow blogger and knitting extraordinaire, Jennifer, sent Kamden two adorable hats she made from scratch. I’m trying to get photos she can use on her website, but Kamden is not cooperating. He’s not a fan of photo sessions seconds before a feeding and nap!

3. Thank you, sweet and precious Baby Jesus, football season is upon us. Any weekend is a great weekend when football is on the tee-vee!

4. What wasn’t so great about last weekend was Kamden’s sudden change in routine and nighttime sleep pattern. Friday and Sunday, he was his normal self – even going to bed at the same time – only to get up an hour later, around 10:45pm, wide awake and ready to play. He was not soothed by a pacifier or Mommy’s coos, he wanted to be up and about. So, Husband and I were up and about, playing, tearing paper, building block towers, reading books, singing silly songs, and entertaining an 8.5 month old after midnight. At 12:30am, three hours after his bedtime bottle, he ate again and immediately went to sleep. There are 12 common symptoms of teething, Kamden has six of them: excessive drool, coughing, biting and chewing, irritability, refusal or disruptive feedings, and wakefulness.

5. In desperation, I bought the Young Living essential oil starter kit. Lavender and lemon oils are known to help with teething and insomnia. A lack of sleep is difficult, but I’m worried sick these extra nighttime feedings will become a habit we’ll have to break later. Goodness, I hope these essential oils work!

6. I’m on a mission to subdue the chaos that is our home and create (and follow) a cleaning routine. I accomplished Sunday’s tasks and ready to tackle today’s project: the kitchen.

7. During one of Kamden’s insomniac moments, see #4, he pulled himself up and stood inside his crib only to smack his perfect, porcelain-like chubby cheek against the side rail before I could catch him. Now, he’s got a bruise and black eye. MOM. FAIL.

8. I’m joining Leslyn and Logan for Mama’s Monday link up. If you’re a mama with a funny/frustrating/silly/embarrassing/scary stories to share, come join us!

Thank you! Thank you! I really – REALLY – hope the essential oils work. My sanity and Kamden’s comfort are on the line. 🙂

Oh yeah those “sudden change in routine and nighttime sleep pattern” episodes! I remember those, so frustrating! Hang in there mama.

I have heard a lot about those oils… make sure to report back…. No mom fail… kids are kids and they are going to get smacked and fall and get bruises.. it just makes them tougher. Love the hat.

Oh Aimee, I know, I have heard so much about these essential oils and teething necklaces. I’m willing to try just about anything if it means my sweet boy will be comfortable and his usual, happy, content, bubbly, chunky monkey self!!!! I will definitely report back with my thoughts and Kamden’s reactions too. Keeping my fingers crossed. 🙂

Awwww, thank you!!!!!! The more I look at it, the more I love it and laugh hysterically. I mean, Mom was the IDIOT who decided an impromptu photo session was a bright idea right before a feeding and naptime. HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Oh no! Little man is still feeling rough! Any moment he’ll have a mouth full of teeth! I hate that he hit his face but at least it wasn’t BAD! Good luck!

Man, this mothering gig is tough stuff. Where’s that “Raising a Baby 101” manual when you need it?! I seriously believe there will be teeth coming through SOON but damn if they’re taking their sweet little time. At least I hope this is teething and not something else. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the essential oils are the missing magic potion we’ve been missing. I have friends/mamas who swear by them, so I’m willing to give them a shot.

Oh my gosh, I can’t even imagine how chaotic your life must be, but KUDOS TO YOU. The chubby cheeks and sad face crack me up. 🙂

Okay so first of all, I love the picture… The hat, the expression, EVERYTHING. 🙂 I love posting cry pictures every now and then, because it shows people that I don’t have the perfect child that sleeps all the time. Haha…

Also, I am totally with you with the frustrating sleep pattern thing. E hasn’t been consistent AT ALL over the past few weeks, so we’re trying to figure out what the heck we can do to make things more of a routine for him. Hopefully things will smooth out soon.

Thanks for linking up with us!

Oh Leslyn, I feel you pain and joy on so many levels. Kamden really is a great kid, but a fan of knitted hat is NOT on his priority list. HA!!!! He’s been an amazing eater and sleeper, so this “detour” we’re experiencing right now, I’m assuming teething-related, is new to all of us. In fact, I sense frustration in Kamden because he’d much rather be sleeping than up for a diaper change and feeding in the middle of the night. It’s like his brain is saying sleep but his belly is telling him to eat. Plus, he is becoming so much more active and engaged in his environment. In fact, I walked in his room this morning and he was STANDING up in his crib. Like, “hey mom, I’m just chillin.” (SAY WHAT?!) It’s amazing and wonderful and exciting, for sure.
