30 Days of Manna // Day 17

30 Days of Manna

In the Old Testament, goats, bulls, and even pigeons were presented to the temple priests as a sacrifice of ____. These animals were perfect and unblemished in every way. In the New Testament, Jesus takes upon himself every sin of the world – past, present, and future – and becomes the ultimate Sacrificial Lamb so believers can have everlasting joy and be in relationship with God. Jesus’s body was perfect and unblemished in every way.

I am not a goat, bull, or pigeon, and I am most definitely NOT Jesus. I am imperfect and blemished in many ways. I don’t measure up, or do I?

Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. ~ Romans 12:1-2 (The Message)

Did you catch that?
Fix your attention on God and you will be changed from the inside out.

Repeat this with me:
Fix your attention on God and you will be changed from the inside out.

Say it again, real loud:
Fix your attention on God and you will be changed from the inside out.

Unlike modern society with its glossy magazines and Photoshopped supermodels, God is less interested in our looks and more interested in our behavior. He cares about what’s inside. Think about it, very few physical descriptions exist in the Bible.

We don’t know if Eve had a pointy chin or crooked nose, but she covered her body after eating the fruit.

Abraham’s wife, Sarah, was approaching 90 when she became pregnant with Isaac, not exactly the age for a cute belly or glowing skin.

Mary delivered the Son of God, but how soon did she fit into her pre-baby cloak?

Peter is known as the rock of the church, but was he tall or short, thin or broad-shouldered?

Isaiah prophesied (described) Jesus has having no form or majesty or beauty to desire. In other words, he would not have been America’s Next Top Male Model or posed for Calvin Klein underwear ads. (Just for grins and giggles, do you think Jesus was a boxer or brief kind of guy?)

Now that I’m imagining Jesus in his skivvies (ha!), how do I present myself as a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to God?

God created me and knows me better than myself, but it is up to me to take care of the body and mind He has entrusted to me.

God does not want me to be a model for Cosmopolitan magazine, He wants me to be a model of his love and mercy.

My lifestyle (in body and mind) is either worship or dishonoring Christ.

My body is not holy because of what it looks like or how much it weighs, but because of what it does.

When I act, in Jesus’s name, with my words or service or presence, I am demonstrating God’s worth and position in my life.

God is personified through our behavior, not flawless skin, muscle mass, extra curves, or a pudgy belly.

You are the most eloquent writer and then right in the middle you throw in something about Jesus in his skivvies and I half to laugh, because that is so very you and one of the many things that make me love your face….and all the rest of you. WOW, just WOW!

Awwww, thanks! Doesn’t everyone imagine Jesus in his skivvies? Oh, that’s just me! Ha! I like to know you’re reading my shenanigans and paying attention to the small details. Tee Hee Hee
