Husband and I decided weeks ago that we would surprise his parents by spending Easter weekend with them in East Texas. We made good on that promise and Kamden got to experience his first Easter egg hunt in their backyard (along with the tradition of a prize *golden* egg) and we also went to church on Easter Sunday.
As soon as we arrived Saturday afternoon, while the weather was still cooperating, the Easter bunny hid his colorful eggs while Kamden was inside getting lots of sugar from Mamaw and Papaw. He loves being outside so getting him out the door to hunt Easter eggs was not a problem.
With Daddy’s help, Kamden walked around the back porch and yard to collect all the eggs. Some were empty, which is he threw to side, but others were filled with candy (chocolate covered marshmallows, to be exact, and Daddy and Uncle C took care of those!) while some large eggs had matchbook cars and trucks inside.
The Easter bunny must’ve stopped at the ATM before dropping its eggs in the backyard because Kamden’s golden egg had a shiny silver matchbox car and dollar bills inside. Of course, Kamden grabbed the car and tossed the money aside! He was happy to show off all of his treasure finds, but he was not at all interested in candy or money.
Sunday morning, Kamden woke up (with his usual wild and crazy hair) and discovered a large bag in the living room with more Easter treats: matchbox cars (Daddy went on a shopping spree!), new swim trunks and shirt for the pool this summer, animal board books, bottles of bubble solution, jumbo crayons, and a new straw sippy cup. Kamden has one parent who’s very practical in HER gift-giving while the other parent is all about the cool toys HE wants to play with too. Okay, fine, Mommy got a little excited about the new box of crayons!
After a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs, wheat toast, cereal, sliced banana and blueberries, Kamden was ready for church. Papaw warned us that lots of people would be excited to see Husband and Kamden, but they were both well-behaved and hospitable troopers! Kamden even let several grandmotherly-women hold him. One of the highlights for Mommy was a new family picture where everyone is smiling and looking at the camera, that’s a miracle right there!
Happy Easter, from our crew to yours!
