OH. MY. STARS.
If someone told me at the beginning of 2013 I’d share this annual review post while anticipating the arrival of our son, I’d have called them a big, fat liar!
Two things I know for sure: life changes in an instant and I’m blessed. =)

What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?
I flew across the Atlantic Ocean to Tel Aviv, Israel, floated in the Dead Sea, walked the centuries-old streets of Jerusalem, and toured the Holy Land. I went to the emergency room where they told me I was pregnant and had gallstones. I rode in an ambulance. I bought an at-home pregnancy test and peed on a stick.
It hasn’t happened yet, but, I’ll give birth to Baby K. Oh-my-goodness-gracious!!!
Did you keep your new years’ resolutions?
Will you make more for next year?
I kept some 2013 resolutions while others fell by the wayside.
I’ve yet to create a list for 2014 — been a little busy, ya know.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes. My cousin, Lindsey, and several bloggers and Tweeps.
Did anyone close to you die?
What countries did you visit?
What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
A healthy, skinnier body. Lightroom skills. Photos as a family of three. An SUV.
What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory?
May 20 — Husband took me to the ER with back and stomach pains (turned out to be gallstones) and we learned I was nearly three months pregnant. This was the same day a fatal tornado hit Moore, Oklahoma.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Losing weight (17lbs to date) while pregnant.
What was your biggest failure?
Forgetting to take prenatal vitamins TWO days in a row and succumbing to a craving by eating a crispy chicken sandwich and fries. #dontjudgeme
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Shingles in March
Sinus infection in April
Gallstones in May
My lady parts will be “injured” in December … just saying.
What was the best thing you bought?
AHAVA products made with Dead Sea water, mud, and nutrients
Maternity jeans from Motherhood Maternity and layering tank tops from Old Navy
Whose behavior merited celebration?
Lisa got a promotion, began a photography business, and moved her blog to a dot-com.
Margaret is kicking breast cancer in the butt.
Husband for being calm, cool, and collected despite having me as his pregnant wife!
Jen for being my resource for all things pregnancy, nursing, and motherhood.
Where did most of your money go?
Groceries, bills, church tithes, Zulily, Qdoba, PayPal, and Amazon
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
We announced our pregnancy to our parents with custom onesies.
What song will always remind you of 2013?
“Roar” — Katy Perry
Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder?
Thinner or fatter?
Richer or poorer?
Richer … in all the ways that money can’t buy!
What do you wish you’d done more of?
Taken more photos and learned Lightroom
What do you wish you’d done less of?
Read fewer articles about child birth. ‘Nuff said.
How will you be spending Christmas?
We have no plans for Christmas since we’re waiting for Kamden’s arrival. My hope is to celebrate Christmas at home. My parents are driving down from Kentucky and Husband’s parents will visit too. It will be nice having both sets of grandparents here to spoil their grandson and help us get settled. As far as gifts, Husband and I decided to wrap Kamden in garland and ribbon, put a bow on his head, and call it a day.
Did you fall in love in 2013?
Yes, his name is Kamden and I haven’t even met him yet!
How many one-night stands?
Who were your best friends?
K, C, T, A, D, C, S, and L.
What thing did you do that was meaningful to others?
Hosted the DFW Bloggers Spring Meet Up
Sent 155+ thank-you cards for baby shower gifts
What were your favorite TV programs?
Wheel of Fortune, Real Housewives, Top Chef, Chopped and Judge Judy
Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Hate is a strong word, but I strongly dislike our neighbors for being rude, inconsiderate, and disrespectful. The dirt bike track they constructed only added insult to injury and fuel to my hatred fire. If you look up chode in the dictionary, you’d see their face.
What was the best book you read in 2013?
Crossfire Series by Sylvia Day — think 50 Shades on steroids. Seriously! I waited six months for the third book in this erotic series and it was worth the wait. Gideon Cross is HOT. As much as I enjoy Christian Gray, Gideon Cross is better.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Natalie Merchant — These Are The Days
I saw her in concert at Bass Hall in Fort Worth with Julie.
What did you want and get?
Le Creuset cookware and a 50mm camera lens
What did you want but did NOT get?
Full-time teaching position, MacBook Pro, and this lens
What were your favorite films this year?
Lincoln and The Butler
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
My *DIRTY THIRTY* birthday is next week (Tuesday, Dec 17) and I have no idea what I’ll be doing. Hopefully, I’m still pregnant and waiting for my parents to arrive from Kentucky. Being an only child, I’d prefer Baby K NOT arrive on my birthday or Christmas. He needs his own day to celebrate. Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I could have done without shingles or gallstones.
What kept you sane?
Faith, family, friends, and wonderful doctors.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
The survivors and first responders in Moore, Oklahoma.
What political issue stirred you the most?
My cousin is currently serving in Afghanistan (Military Police, U.S. Army) and that makes me nervous about our (the United States) involvement in the Middle East as well as the wars going on there right now. I’m also flabbergasted at the website issues associated with the healthcare reform. I am a self-proclaimed Village Idiot when it comes to technology, HTML code, and the like, but you’d think a team of professionals getting paid who-knows-how-much could create a decent website.
Who do you miss?
Rev. L moved in June, fell in love, and is getting married in January!
Who are the best new persons you met this year?
Sean – Photoshop mentor
Wisam (also known as Sam) – tour guide in Israel
