Today I’m joining Texas Women Bloggers for a Getting To Know You link party. These ladies — 272 in total — are more than a group on Facebook; they are friends. If you live in Texas, and have a blog, you must join the community. If you live in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Kansas, or Mississippi, you have access to a blogging network too! Very soon, North Carolina and Missouri will have their websites available.
This month’s questions:
1. What part of Texas do you call home?
While I will always call Kentucky my first home, Texas is growing on me. Husband was born and raised in East Texas, Rains County to be specific. In 2006, we moved to Fort Worth when he accepted a new job and, in 2007, we purchased our home in Joshua. It’s located 20 miles south of Fort Worth, 52 miles southwest of Dallas, 178 miles north of Austin, and 612 miles east of El Paso. And, if you are geographically-curious, Joshua is 7,274 miles from Tel Aviv, Israel. If that’s too far to walk, it’s an 18-hour airplane ride.
2. How long have you been blogging?
I began blogging during a freak snow storm in December 2010. I was teaching in Fort Worth at the time and school was cancelled for an entire week due to inclement weather. Husband can easily work from home — as long as the high-speed Internet is working — and I was happy to lounge in my jammies all day and all night. Eventually, however, I got bored and Husband’s not a board game or card player. A friend has an amazing blog, The Coastal Chicster, and she encouraged me to create my own. A year later (December 2011), I switched from Blogger to WordPress and began this blog, Three 31.
3. Why did you start blogging?
In the beginning, I blogged because everybody else was doing it. Yes, that sounds ridiculous, but I wanted to be a part of the “cool” crowd. Time and experience, however, has given me new insight and perspective. There are some really incredible blogs — no doubt — but I’ll never reach those levels. Besides, I seriously doubt I’ll ever earn money or have my own dot-com domain name. I don’t blog for recognition or to earn a living, I blog to share stories. I enjoy writing and some people think I’m pretty good. That’s enough for me.
4. When we visit your blog, what can we expect to discover?
Three 31 is a lifestyle blog. I share stories that are often humorous and I’m not afraid to poke fun at myself. Husband occasionally graces the blog, but not very often. He’s a private kind of guy and usually rolls his eyes when I write about him. My faith is very important and I share posts and photos from my travels (domestic and international) for mission trips and pilgrimages. Food and photography also find their way into blog posts and, most recently, so does my pregnancy. I don’t intend for Three 31 to become a “mommy blog” per se, but Kamden will definitely add his own spunk. When you visit Three 31, you won’t find advertisements and I don’t promote a product or service unless I wholeheartedly believe in it.
5. How did you come up with your Blog Title and what is its meaning?
Three 31 represents the month and day Husband and I married, March 31.
6. What do you love about being part of Texas Women Bloggers?
THE PEOPLE!!!!! I have met the most interesting, caring, amazing, and talented women through Texas Women Bloggers. I’m thankful for their support and, most importantly, their friendship. These ladies are welcome to my home — and my front porch — anytime! To bloggers or someone wanting to start a blog, I highly recommend finding bloggers that you connect with, ask questions, and help guide you. It’s a big, big world on the Inter-webs, everybody needs help in the beginning!
7. Who inspires you to blog?
I’m inspired by other bloggers and I would be amiss if I didn’t mention the folks who are NOT bloggers but continue to inspire and encourage me to write.
