Hello, I am April, also known as Red Dirt Mama.
I’ve been trying to think of a post to write for Nicole that would leave you laughing, crying, wanting to be my friend and not wanting to leave her blog all at the same time.
That may not happen.
I had the lucky fortune to meet Nicole at the DFW Bloggers event. Prior to our party, most everyone shared a “what you need to know about me” post and I was terrified! All these fabulous ladies have fabulous lives and fabulous blogs … I was NOT feeling fabulous! I figured they’d take one look at me and yell Spartan-style: BAN THE OKLAHOMAN!!
I’m thinking old Sparta, not SNL Spartan. Although the SNL scene would have been more likely. (This didn’t happen, by the way.)
I stumbled upon Nicole’s post and it was the exact moment that I knew I had found a friend. We have so much in common: generous “girls”, a love for sweet tea, the ability to embarrass ourselves at a moment’s notice, and keeping it real. She was so honest that I felt as though I was meeting an old friend when I hugged her neck. She is also the only person in the whole world that could make me interested in reading 50 Shades of Grey!!!!! The entire night, I laughed every time I was around her. I love her spirit, her humor, and her accent. I left that night feeling loved and fabulous and I also felt like I belonged! A great deal of that was attributed to this crazy girl.
One of the things that makes me love her the most is her faith. She’s a mix of God, country, and a little bit of crazy — in the best way. I love that she is real about both her faith and her love of Christian Grey. I used to be in ministry when I was in college. Afterwards, and I’ll be honest, a lot of Christians scared me. Nicole is authentic. She gives me hope and refreshment every time I read her blog posts.
I’m praying for her as she’s in Haiti. I hope the people she meets there love her as much as I do. To meet Nicole is to love her. I firmly believe that!
This may not have made you laugh or cry, but I hope you’ll still be her friend – and possibly mine too! I ask that you keep her in your mind while she is gone. Mission trips will wreck you in a good way. I’m praying that she comes back completely wrecked.
Hurry back girl – we miss you!
